In recent days, a debate is raging as to which security cameras are better – the analog ones or the higher resolution Megapixel IP Cameras. While both are decent, the scale is sure to tilt a little in favor of the latter. The reason is that Megapixel IP Cameras digitize video signals by using specialized encoders which contain onboard web servers through which video images may be viewed in an existing network and also through web browsers accessed through the internet. Analog cameras turn videos into a format which can be viewed only on a television, monitor or VCR.
Let us now look at 10 reasons for favoring megapixel cameras over analog cameras.
Compared to analog cameras, megapixel cameras have a camera quality of at least 5 megapixels and with resolution of HDTV (720p/1080p). This gives viewers a detailed image over a larger area.
Megapixel IP cameras connect easily to an existing data network. Only one cable for one camera is needed for data, video and power. By using power over Ethernet or PoE, there is no need for a power outlet close to the camera. In case the network switches have been connected to redundant power, the camera stay connected as well even during power failures.
The best thing about megapixel IP cameras is that the image or video quality does not get degraded over time or when it is converted into a different format altogether. Analog cameras cannot offer this kind of image quality.
The function of megapixel IP cameras is not just to capture good images. Rather, they have many other functions as well. One function is motion detection where a loud or discreet alarm may go off in case any unusual motion is detected. Some cameras have a built in tampering alarm that goes off in case someone tampers with the alarm.
A very good thing about a megapixel camera is that it has an integrated I/O, PTZ control, audio, video and power in one cable. This saves cost and betters functionality. For analog cameras, separate cables are needed for separate functions, making their installation costlier and cumbersome.
Megapixel cameras can offer video feed encryption and multilevel user access control. This gives you the liberty to control who looks at your system and what they see on it. No third party manipulation can be done as well. Analog cameras have no such security features.
The megapixel IP cameras have no problems regarding interlacing. With the help of progressive scanning, entire images are captured every time and the image quality is superior as well unlike analog cameras.
In case a need arise to add extra cameras to an existing megapixel IP camera, then that can be done easily. Cabling is easier to do and open standards will ensure that one is not caught in proprietary technology. In case of analog camera, cabling is tougher and if one wants to match the new equipments to the existing system, choices will be very limited.
While one may think that the cost of analog cameras are less, the accessories, cables and DVR equipments that have to be bought separately drives up the cost a lot. In comparison, the megapixel IP cameras come for a lot less.
If one buys that latest megapixel IP cameras, they can grow with new opportunities and future challenges. Plug in architecture and open standards will help the cameras to adapt to new technologies. While we are on the topic of megapixel IP cameras, let us have a quick look at two such cameras that have all the necessary features.

It is the perfect balance of a combination system as of the 16 cameras, 8 are wired and the other 8 are wireless cameras. It also comes equipped with a Network Video Recorder or NVR. The wired and wireless cameras can be installed according to your specific needs depending on ease of access to wiring and power.
HD security camera systems are in demand nowadays mostly because of the superior image quality that they provide as they can capture video footage up to 1080p resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels) or more. Of course, it is important to remember that these HD surveillance cameras can only be used along with HD-SDI surveillance DVR sets. HD quality images make it much more easier to recognize and help catch a criminal in case of a crime, and even when one is just monitoring their surroundings, it becomes easier to do so because the images are clearer and the clarity is much better than an ordinary camera.
If you are still unable to decide on what to do and whether to go in for HD security cameras, here are 5 very pertinent reasons to help you make a quick decision in favor of HD image quality camera systems.
DVRs and analog camera systems are Low-definition and about to reach the end of their life cycle. The biggest reason for this is that HD -definition IP cameras and NVRs today are priced extremely competitively, prompting most new buyers to switch to them. The system that they use consists of advanced hard drives that are designed for professional use along with RAID (or redundant array of independent disks) backup. With the help of RAID, data gets spread across multiple HDDs. In case one drive fails, the files will be backed up on another hard drive. Additionally, the maintenance expenditure that is required in order to support legacy video hardware creates the urgency for upgrading equipment regularly.
The common misconception is that NAS or network attached storage based installations can be more complex than DVR-based ones. This was true earlier, but manufacturers have now added features like universal plug-and-play camera recognition to make NVR installations a simple and straightforward affair. Moreover, manufacturers are designing new IP cameras for ease of installation that are instantly recognized and ready to use in minutes!
Many companies have an analog system already in place, and they may want to maximize their existing investment. To help them do this, manufacturers have created new solutions like encoders that support hybrid environments. As analog or DVR components are starting to fail or are reaching the end of their life cycles, users should switch out those components and upgrade to IP cameras and NVR installations. This type of hybrid environment can maximize a company’s initial investment, and also provides them with the flexibility of funding the upgrade to HD based video surveillance over a period of time.
One very wrong and gross misconception that people have is IP camera set ups and NVR deployments are priced prohibitively expensively. It is true that the DVR may be a cheaper option at the initial stage over an NVR. However, one needs to remember that the NVR is not a “one-trick pony” — rather, it offers multiple functionality including managing the video surveillance system, an essential requirement for any company. It can also operate as a foundation for overall storage as well as data management needs of a workgroup, stand-alone business or remote location. The prices of IP cameras are dropping continuously, and this raises the prospect of HD cameras clocking significantly better sales with each passing day, making it the smarter choice that will pay for itself over time.
Every day, security camera companies are bringing out high-definition IP security cameras that are priced quite affordably. These cameras offer better resolution, highly detailed images and an expanded surveillance environment. After all, who does not like to look better at everything in HD?! And this also includes video surveillance security files.
While we are on the topic of HD security cameras, let us take a quick look at a security camera that will surely meet all the criteria you may have and more!
This HD security camera system comes with a HDMI port and also supports up to 8 sPoE cameras. The cameras have a simple remote access set up that can be accessed through a smart phone or through a tablet. There is a high-quality megapixel sensor on the network IP camera that captures images in 720P HD quality along with a resolution of 1280 x 720. The camera has a wide angle of 80 degrees, which means more monitoring coverage (and lesser cameras!).
Another technology update incorporated is that one does not have to choose between normal recording and motion detection. Rather, recording will start automatically whenever motion is detected, saving storage space as well. In case of movement, an email alert is sent to the designated user. There is very essential infrared night vision present as well with footage capture up to 65ft. The capacity of the hard drive is 1TB, and in case one is planning to install it outdoors, all cables and conduits should be sealed properly.

Wireless cameras are quite popular because they are small and can be installed easily. If a wireless receiver is nearby, then the camera can be positioned there. The great thing about wireless cameras is that they can be easily repositioned as well. Wired cameras suffer little or no signal damage, and are very hard to hack. They are larger in size and cannot be reinstalled at other locations with a different wifi network without reconfiguration, but are more expensive than wired cameras.
Indoor Or Outdoor
When it comes to your business establishment, cameras are best installed both outside and inside the premise to keep eye on all the activities going on in and around the place.
Remote Viewing
In today’s world where a person is always on the move, it is really necessary to buy security cameras that offer remote surveillanceas an option. With the help of the internet, one can review one’s video footage on a monitor or even a smart phone with ease. You just need to configure the DDNS and port-forwarding to get an IP address for remote viewing.
Motion Detection
Motion detection is a very good way of recording videos and images, especially if you have limited storage options for your footage. While a normal security camera may go on recording without any stops, you will not come to know when a crime has been committed in real time. Security systems are the new trend in the market these days and it is no surprise that many find themselves on the confused end by a thing or two about DVR systems. If you are sailing in that boat then there is no need to worry-apparently you are not in the boat alone. We take a look at some questions that many consumers and potential consumers of DVR systems are usually confused about. Perhaps if you take some notes you can learn a thing or two about the DVR security systems.
If you are interested in DVR security systems, go ahead to Funlux DVR security system pages to know more details.
It is important to start from the basics first and this is certainly a question many new users tend to ask. A DVR is a term that is usually used to refer to a hardware used to record videos in a disk space. It may refer to decoders as well but in the case of security systems, it forms the core part of the network that stores video data capture by cameras.
The number of hours will depend on the quality of video and mode of recording. The latest cameras interface with the DVR outputs HD format meaning it will occupy more space -roughly 18 hours will work for these formats. Latest DVR systems can be configured to record only on motion detection thus they save up lots of hard drive space.
DVR systems can usually be configured to work with cameras from various companies but compatibilities should be checked first before purchase. Some DVR systems are compatible with wired cameras while others are compatible with wireless ones. It is always important to check for DVR compatibility before making a purchase lest you want to risk losing money!
If you already have a security system in place, you can still take advantage of 960H DVR systems but you will not get the best of pictures as compared to if you use 960H cameras.
960H is a new high image quality standard for DVRs and Cameras that take advantage of advanced sensors and processing techniques. With this standard, you will get better images with high resolution and true to Life features. The systems are also very easy to maintain and upgrade. To enjoy this standard you will need 960H compatible DVR and cameras.
The latest cameras you will find in the market will use Ethernet standards to power and communicate with the DVR. However other DVRs communicate with the cameras via BNC cable connectors. This cable connectors are known to power the cameras as well allow for video communications.
DVRs vary in form of video outputs that are supported. The latest and the most high quality ones will use HDMI cables to communicate with monitors. You can also use RCA cables to connect the DVR to a standard TV monitor. A VGA output can be connected to A VGA input port of a standard computer monitor as well. This can be done using VGA cables available in the market.
This depends on the system you are using as different companies have laid down different aspects for their users. Generally, most systems will allow multiple monitoring video standards while JPEG surveillance DVRs and MJPEG surveillance DVR will only allow a single user at a time.
If your router does not support Dynamic DNS, you will need to a dynamic DNS client on a computer that is connected to a router you will be use to monitor the DVR. This client will serve the purpose of updating the dynamic DNS service whenever you change your IP address: To do this, check out for a free Dynamic DNR account and install the client on your windows account. Configure the software to work with the router that you will be using.
]]>Technology has revolutionized the way things are done and security is surely not immune to this. With the development of wireless technology things are getting better or rather even easier in surveillance! Everybody loves efficiency in security and it does not come better than wireless home security cameras. Wireless security cams are the next big things in surveillance and this article will give you an insight on the basic installation and set up tips you will need when installing wireless home security camera system!
The first thing you will need to do is buy a modern wireless security camera with great specifications-preferably, you can go for Funlux 4 Wireless 720P Surveillance Cameras 4 CH NVR Security System 1TB. This security system is fabricated with long-range high definition cameras, lots of memory and high level of scalability to suit modern networks protocols and mobile surveillance capabilities over the internet using smart phones. Once you have purchased the system, it's now time to start the installation.
The first step is to configure the NVR (Network Video Recorder) but first you will have to power the NVR using the provided power adapter (N.B: Do Not Use any other power adapter just in case you blow up your System). The next step would be to connect your display using a VGA cable through the VGA ports of the NVR and the display. Connect your IP cameras to the LAN ports of the NVR- using LAN cables provided. Just in case you have no idea what IP cameras are then in simple terms they are cameras that communicate with the system using Internet protocols. These protocols will come in handy when communicating with devices like phones through the router. The router is connected to LAN port on the right hand side (when facing the backside of the NVR). The connection is made using a LAN cable provided. Once completed, the connection looks something like in the diagram below: You will also need to connect your mouse through the USB port.
The next step is to set up and configure your new cameras in the wireless home surveillance system. As stated earlier, the NVR supports four concurrent cameras powered over Ethernet (POE). This is to imply that you will need to connect all your cameras first before you can proceed to configuring them through the User Interface and the peripherals provided. The beauty with this system is that a Linux kernel powers it. The Linux OS has a very friendly user interface to ease navigation. Just power it up then log into your system with admin as the user and 111111 as the password.
The system will automatically try to add the connected cameras thus all you have to do is wait. If it fails you will have to add them manually.
Once this is established, you can then select the suitable location for the cameras and mount them using designated screws and wall brackets.
NVR First Time Set Up
Again, the NVR user experience does not come better than a start up wizard that lets you configure your NVR once powered on for the first time. Simply click on anywhere on the screen and follow the simple steps. Enable the Network Time Protocol to allow automatic update of time lest you would like to would like to update them manually.
The wizard will also let you configure you name, phone, and email. The system allows up to 16 accounts with the administrator granted full privileges.
Home Screen Introduction
The main screen is what is termed as the home screen. By default, the home screen has a quad view-that is you will see all the four camera views on a single screen. The NVR also allows you to toggle between other views by clicking to the bottom left of the screen and selecting Single View. The other aspect available is the playback option that allows you to review the video footage.
Notifications are also available on the quick menu, which serves the purpose of raising an alarm probably if there is no HDD or if there is an alarm trigger, motion detection etc. In simple terms, the functionalities available on the home screen are a lot depending on your preferences.
Now, it’s time o go and pick up your wireless security camera systems for home and follow these simple installation steps and you are good to go. Security can’t get easier than this!

When looking at the price to product ratio and overall functionality, it seems clear that the Funlux 4 Wireless 4 PoE 720P HD Surveillance Cameras 8CH IP Security camera System 1TB is the clear winner. It does not have the biggest storage drive out of them, nor does it have the best display resolution out of all of them, but it is the only system to include all of the best features desired in a surveillance system all while maintaining an absolutely unbeatable price. For those systems that do have wireless functionality, there systems only included 4 cameras at nearly the same or more than the price of the Funlux. Moreover, those systems with less camera versatility but higher aspect ratios or storage capacy simply do not deliver a competitive price.
So you need a surveillance system but you are on a budget. You’re not looking for some crazy 1080p cameras. But you do want something with quality resolution, durably made, and that delivers on the price point. The good news is that you can get a great surveillance system without having to break the bank. What follows are the top 5 options for 960h surveillance systems.
The Funlux system has a very versatile kit. It comes with remote access through mobile devices and still has a clean crisp image without having to dig deep into the pockets. It has intelligent recording to help save on disc space, though a hefty 1TB drive should hold up well, and with weatherproof cameras you don’t need to worry about the placement of any of the 8 cameras that are included. Q-see makes a sturdy product. I like that the system they offer is 16 channels as it allows room from significant upgrades in the number of cameras you can expand to. Also, I like the 100 ft. night vision capabilities. But without offering much more by way of utility, it may be hard to justify the $500 when similar systems can be purchased for less.

This is a durable set that only has a few hold-ups. First, the warranty is simply not competitive. Most of the competition offers 2 year warranties on their product while SWANN offers only one. Moreover, the price point is too high when you could buy the Funlux cited above for a fraction of the price without losing anything by way of function and utility. Though it should be noted that I do love its design and sleek looking DVR.

LOREX makes great products and their brand sets industry standards for quality. But a big name can only carry you so far. Yes, they lead the way in Night Vision distance and their storage doubles most in the market with 2TB. But the price is simply not competitive. There has to be more novelty as one cannot sell a name for that much more, there needs to be more measurable functionality and utility to merit the steep price.

Amcrest always comes through on affordability. But on this one they skimped out on a few easily measurable things. They price is right. But to get to that price we have 4 fewer included cameras and a storage drive cut to 500GB. Other than those things, affordably, durability and function is very similar to competing brands. If you do not need more than 4 cameras and don’t anticipate running your drive full of footage, this may be a unit worth consideration.

If affordability is key without losing anything meaningful by way of functionality and utility, I would take a good hard look at the Funlux 8CH 960H DVR Surveillance System, P2P, QR-Code Connection, 1TB HDD, 8 700TVL Cameras, as it seems this one may take the cake.
]]>When searching for an affordable Surveillance system without having to skimp out on quality, it’s always good to narrow the search down to some basic elements. For instance, one of the biggest concerns with respect to surveillance systems that home and business owners have is whether or not their system is going to provide the sort of clarity necessary to prevent or prosecute criminal activity. This means limiting your prospective purchase only to those that can provide high quality video. In this article, I will list the top 5 cameras capable of 720p video resolution.
I list the Funlux system first because of its versatile kit, high quality video and WiFi capable cameras all at the most affordable price. None of the other reviewed systems has WiFi cameras that allow for more flexible camera placement. Moreover, while all the systems reviewed here are capable of 720p video resolution, none can do so at and equally affordable price.

Lorex is a big player in the surveillance system world and they are known for making quality systems. What keeps them from the top is that their systems do not offer enough novelty to merit paying more when other systems, like the Funlux above, are capable of the same performance (and the Funlux includes 2 additional cameras). One area where LOREX excels is its night vision range, where the range of the cameras reaches 130 feet. When video clarity is a big factor, such night vision achievements are worth noting.

Swann makes quality cameras and this system is no exception. What puts it behind the competition is its price point. Its cameras record at a crisp 720p and its night vision range is a solid 82 feet, but it simply is not able to package its quality in a way that makes it a realistic value for most consumers. Moreover, as all of its cameras are powered through Ethernet, flexibility in camera placement is stymied by the conspicuous absence of Wifi capable cameras.

The Q-see system is a solid system but it suffers from simply not standing out. There is nothing particularly novel about the system and it doesn’t have any important distinguishing features that warrant it being priced higher than competing brands. Yes, it will see 80ft in the night and yes it has remote access and intelligent motion detection. But where are the Wifi cameras? Why are there no longer cords provided for those looking for more expansive placement? Why pay more if the system is not doing more?

Amcrest gives us a very affordable product with this surveillance system. It uses coaxial cables that can reach great distances, which is nice. It is not, however, as convenient or as easy as Wifi cameras that need only be near a power outlet and within one’s network range. But when all is said and done, this product provides a solid product at a solid price. If flexibility with camera placement is not a factor for you, this one is worth consideration.

Let’s first understand what an NVR is. A network video recorder popularly called NVR is a software program that enables recording surveillance video in a digital format to a disk drive, USB flash drive, memory card or other similar mass storage device. An NVR doesn’t have any dedicated video capturing hardware. However, the software uses a dedicated device, most often than not with an embedded operating system. Alternatively, in addition to help support increased functionality and serviceability, standard Windows operating systems and Linux are used with standard Intel processors and video management software. An NVR is typically deployed in an IP video surveillance system. NVR home security systems are generally wireless, they tend to be easy to set up, can be accessed through a web browser, and allow the user to be notified by email if an alarm is triggered.
1.4 channel NVR Security System – This is an entry level Network Video Recorder for your home, retailer store or small office applications. It is compatible with many IP cameras, with no specific hardware or software required—you just need to plug NVR into your LAN-connected device (switch or router) with few clicks and it will search and configure each connected IP cameras, no more extra work needed. You can connect up to 4 IP cameras via the local area network or over the Internet simultaneously.
2. 8 channel NVR Security System – Similar to a 4 channel NVR, this system is compatible with 8 IP cameras. Again no specific hardware or software required, you simply plug your NVR into your LAN connected device and it will configure your each connected IP cameras.
3. 16 channel NVR Security System— For a big house or a big office space you will require more cameras and consequently a bigger NVR. 16 channel NVR works similarly as 4 channel and 8 channel NVR work. Though you might need a bigger storage device to keep recordings of 16 cameras intact.
The NVR supports an external hard disk from the SATA interface. The built-in gateway helps in separating the network camera connection and the data network connection for the prevention of network congestion. Functional four digital inputs and one digital output interfaces are capable of integrating with the security sensors and alarms. This NVR ensures the best quality and highest performance in network video recording.
If you are using a network router / DHCP server in your system, you need to connect your Standalone NVR to your network on Ethernet Port1. Standalone NVR then tries to get IP address from router by DHCP. If your network does not assign any IP address automatically, then Ethernet Port 1 will use static IP address 192.168.0.10 after 30 seconds. On the back panel of your standalone NVR, the Ethernet port on the left is Ethernet Port1, on the right is Ethernet Port2. P2P network protocol has been added to approve more different network service companies. In most conditions, as long as you are connected to the internet, the strong network penetrating let you easily visit your NVR remotely after the initial QR-Code scan setup.

There have been many recent updates in the MeShare app that have fixed several bugs and improved upon other functions. However, for many of you using the iOS app on your iPhone or iPad, you may not have been alerted to these updates in the App store.
Due to an issue with Apple, it was necessary for MeShare to create a new MeShare app ID. This allowed us to publish the MeShare app again and update it. However, since the updates came out on a separate app ID, those of you using the old MeShare app have not been alerted to these new updates. But worry not! There is a very simple way of resolving this and making sure you have the latest MeShare app (version 2.0.10).
All you need to do to get the latest MeShare app is to uninstall your current version and then find the new MeShare app on the Apple App store and choose to download and install it. And don’t worry, the app is still free and always will be.
1. To uninstall an app from your iPhone or iPad, just press and hold on the MeShare app icon from your home screen. You will see all the icons begin to shake and see a little x in the top left corner of each.
2. Press the x in the top left corner of the shaking MeShare icon.
3. A popup will appear that says “Delete ‘MeShare’”. Choose delete to uninstall it.
4. Great! Now go to the App Store, and search for “MeShare”. You should find version 2.0.10, which is the latest version as of today.
5. Press the download icon for the MeShare app to install it, and then press Open.
6. Now you can log back into your same MeShare account and access your camera and all the new features that have been added!
Once you have gone through this process, you will receive app updates as usual when they come out, and you won’t have to do this again.
If you are having any trouble or questions, please let us know by contacting [email protected].
